At the height of racial tensions between black and Hispanic youth in Union City”s Decoto District in 2007, 5 alleged gang members were convicted for the murder of freshman Vernon Eddins on the campus of Barnard-White Middle School before his 15th birthday and 4 days before Christmas as Vernon and friends were being chased. “ Run” tells the courageous story of a mother seeking justice for a son who was killed by gang members for the color of his skin. A newly elected woman prosecutor attempting to change the systematic racism of a police dept while bringing a civil case against a bias school district. A community struggling to bridge the gap of racial harmony and tear down the wall of hatred and bring peace to a city. Vernon will always be remembered as a voice blowing in turbulent winds for justice and giving his life for racial freedom.
