the game's original soundtrack hasn't been re-released, either. it's mostly the same stuff, but the soundtrack is mostly a lost cause anyway, since the sound quality on the new duke nukem forever is atrocious. the only way to hear the music is through the game's in-game radio, but then you can't play the game while listening to the music.
as far as the game's multiplayer goes, you can play it online, or you can play it offline with up to four players. most of this stuff is pretty basic, but there are some things worth mentioning. you can change your character's appearance, so you can make it look like someone from the old game, but you can't use your own duke nukem character or your own duke nukem forever character. you can however, use duke nukem 3d characters. since you can't play as your own characters in single player mode, this is mostly a way of playing multiplayer online without having to deal with cheating.
so yeah, it's hard to take the character seriously. but if you want to just see what duke's all about, there's a fun challenge of it. there's never more than one or two on screen at a time, and they're easy to get to. it's like a twisted jackass stunt where you're just going to have to go off the side of a building and then survive.
for all the things that make duke nukem forevers campaign ridiculous, the end is pretty damn interesting. when duke finally gets to his penthouse in the sky, he finds a final boss named dr. naughty and his partner in crime, dr. nice. duke nukem forever culminates in a series of bad dialogue filled cinematic cutscenes. duke nukem forevers story isn't compelling, but you can at least get a sense of just what goes on in the military for the rest of the game, which is centered around operation piggyback. 3d9ccd7d82
