VCDS Interface Cable
To use VCDS software, you need a compatible interface cable that connects your PC to your car's diagnostic port. There are different types of interface cables available, depending on the model and year of your vehicle.
The most common interface cables are:
HEX-NET: This is a wireless interface that works with WiFi or USB. It supports all vehicles based on VW's MQB platform, which includes Golf Mk7, Audi A3 8V, Seat Leon 5F and Skoda Octavia III.
HEX-V2: This is a wired interface that works with USB only. It supports all vehicles based on VW's MQB platform, as well as most older vehicles that use K-line or CAN protocols.
HEX+CAN: This is an older wired interface that works with USB only. It supports most vehicles that use K-line or CAN protocols, but not the ones based on VW's MQB platform.
KII-USB: This is an older wired interface that works with USB only. It supports most vehicles that use K-line protocol only, but not the ones that use CAN protocol or are based on VW's MQB platform.
You can buy these interface cables from Ross-Tech or from authorized distributors. You can also find some clone or counterfeit cables online, but they may not work properly or damage your car or PC.
How to Use VCDS Software
Once you have installed VCDS software and connected your interface cable to your PC and car, you can start using VCDS software to diagnose and modify your vehicle's settings.
Here are some basic steps to use VCDS software:
Start VCDS software by running the VCDS Loader program and clicking Start VCDS.
Click Options and select the correct communications port for your interface cable. Use Test to confirm that VCDS can find the interface and communicate with it. Then click Save.
Turn the ignition switch ON in your car. No need to start the engine.
Click Select on the main screen of VCDS to access the control modules in your car. You can choose from Auto-Scan, which scans all the modules automatically, or Manual Select, which lets you choose a specific module.
Once you have selected a module, you can perform various functions such as reading fault codes, clearing fault codes, viewing measuring values, performing output tests, coding new features, adapting settings, etc.
When you are done with a module, click Go Back to return to the main screen of VCDS.
